I just finished my first draft for a research paper that I've been struggling to work on, so I'm taking a moment to indulge in more selfish writing...
The past few days I've been thinking about intellectual integrity. Why do we believe what we do and why do we believe it? Do you ever take a look at one your beliefs and evaluate whether you have truly considered it in an intellectually honest way, or have you just adopted an opinion because it felt right or seemed like a popular idea?
I think specifically of the flat-earthers - those so willfully ignorant that they flat out refuse to believe any scientific data that demonstrates that evolution might actually be a correct scientific theory, or that global climate change is actually occurring.
I like to think that Democrats in general value scientific enquiry and critical thinking, but sometimes the evidence indicates that our critical thinking is not applied universally, but rather only to those that affirm our preconceived opinions.
